Services We Provide

ITS offers a range of services and programs to clients throughout the Richmond, Virginia metro area, including but not limited to Henrico, Goochland, Chesterfield, and Hanover county. We work with various private and public school systems. In addition to working in the school environment, ITS offers a variery of private therapy sessions tailored specifically to your child needs and goals.

Integrated Therapy Services specializes in occupational therapy for children and young adults. The Occupational therapists at our facility have training, experience and certifications in many different treatment approaches.

ITS provides services for children with a variety of medical diagnoses and school classifications from birth through 21 years of age.  Our diverse population includes children with diagnoses of Sensory Processing Disorders, Dyspraxia, Nonverbal Learning Disabilities (NLD), Attention Deficit Disorders (AD/HD), Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism,  Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delay, Dysgraphia, Down Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, Motor Incoordination, Pervasive Developmental Disorders and Rett’s Syndrome. We also treat children with subtle symptoms such as handwriting difficulties that nonetheless interfere with daily life.

Our services include evaluation, direct intervention, consultation, program development, workshops and seminars and fun therapeutic after-school and summer programs. Programs are individualized for each child and are coordinated with families and/or school personnel as appropriate.

Occupational therapy for children addresses a child’s “occupations,” the activities that he engages in daily. Occupational therapy addresses a variety of skills, including, but not limited to: sensory integration, social skills, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, cognitive and perceptual motor skills, and self help skills.

Each child is special to us and treatment plans, which often look and feel like play, are developed with the goal of helping the child achieve his or her maximum potential. We believe the family is an integral part of the therapy program and provide opportunities for full involvement in their child’s treatment. Our therapeutic approach emphasizes integration of the home, school and therapy environments. We feel this is critical to the child’s growth and development.

Screenings

Occupational therapy screenings are available to schools, preschool and daycare providers. Screenings are offered to ascertain if fine motor, gross motor or life skills problems exist and to answer questions regarding developmental concerns. The screening involves gathering data using a standardized test, reviewing samples of classroom work, discussion with the classroom teacher, a writing sample and/or classroom observation. During the screening process a fairly complete picture of the child’s sensorimotor functioning emerges. A brief, approximately one page, report is provided at the end of the screening. If concerns are noted during the screening, your child may be referred for a more comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation.

Consultations

Parent Training

This program focuses on the parenting strategies for establishing routines, achieving greater compliance and addressing behavioral concerns at home and in the community. This program is custom tailored to meet the needs of each unique family and help parents:

  • Better understand the role of sensory processing and how it relates to behavior and social-emotional development
  • Understand what drives a child’s behavior and how to address behavioral issues
  • Better understand their own parenting style, as well as the child’s learning style
  • Increase individual confidence as parents

Commonwealth Parenting will offer on-site support by facilitating parent groups and providing workshops.

Individualized Education Program (IEP) Consultation

We can help you with your upcoming IEP.  One of our educational specialists can guide you through the IEP process and make sure you understand your parental rights.  The ITS team can provide a clinical opinion of your child’s present level of performance. A therapist can also attend the IEP meeting if you would like to advocate for team support and open the lines of communication between the educational and clinical team.
